Brumsic Brandon, Jr.

My dad, pioneering newspaper cartoonist Brumsic Brandon, Jr., (1927 -2014) was among the first to have Black characters drawn by Black hands in the white press. Luther debuted in the late sixties and ran through the mid 1980s. This is just part of his story. My dad, the cartoonist, columnist, painter, sculptor, civil rights activist, educator and humanitarian, was prolific. Throughout his career he also produced a breadth of searingly insightful editorial cartoons for the Black press and scores of other publications.

Original works by Brumsic Brandon, Jr. are in collections at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C., and the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum in Columbus, Ohio.
